One product, two names. "Sintered stone" and "big slab" are the same material — 岩板. Here is what importers actually need to know: the sizes, the applications, and the one quality test that decides whether a slab is worth buying.
Before anything else, clear up the naming. On the retail and specification side the material is called sintered stone. On the sourcing and fabrication side it is called big slab or large-format slab. Both mean the same thing: 岩板 — a large, thin, densely compacted slab made by sintering raw materials under high pressure and temperature.
They are not two different products, and you should not source them as if they were. When you evaluate a supplier, judge the slab, not the label.
Sintered stone is defined by its large format. The standard slab sizes we supply are:
Slab thickness ranges from 3.5 mm to 20 mm. Thin slabs (3.5–6 mm) are often laminated onto a substrate; thicker slabs (12–20 mm) are used standalone for flooring and countertops. Confirm the exact sizes and thicknesses with the specific factory before ordering — not every plant offers every combination.
Its large size and uniform body make it unusually versatile. Two broad application families:
Laid directly on floors and walls, including large residential and commercial floors, feature walls and building facades. Fewer joints, larger visual surface, easier cleaning.
This is where sintered stone earns its premium. The slab is cut and shaped into:
Any of these fabricated uses depends entirely on how the material behaves in the workshop — which brings us to the part most buyers underestimate.
A flat slab can look flawless in a showroom and still fail in production. For sintered stone, surface appearance is not the deciding factor. What actually determines whether a slab is worth buying — and whether it can even be processed — is its processability (加工性能) and its breakage / failure rate during fabrication (加工破损率).
Concretely, judge a slab by how it performs when:
If the breakage rate during any of these steps is high, the slab is effectively unusable no matter how good it looks — you lose material, labour and lead time. Experienced buyers therefore evaluate sintered stone by its fabrication performance, not by its picture.
As your China sourcing partner, we screen sintered stone factories by real fabrication performance, not catalogue photos. We coordinate sample approval that includes cut and edged pieces, and we can build a pre-shipment inspection step around processability and breakage rate so the slabs you receive are genuinely workable in your workshop.
